To the surprise of no one, the\u00a0Milwaukee Brewers\u00a0traded\u00a0Devin Williams\u00a0this offseason. The two-time All-Star and NL Reliever of the Year is entering his final season of club control and will be a free agent following the 2025 MLB season. Milwaukee received starting pitcher Nestor Cortes, infield prospect Caleb Durbin (who has Wisconsin ties), and $4.5 million in cash from the\u00a0New York Yankees\u00a0in exchange for Williams.<\/p>\n

While the Brewers had remained open to the possibility of keeping Williams for the 2025 season, it appears that the opportunity to add another starting pitcher in Cortes (who is also entering his final season of club control) was too good to pass up.<\/p>\n

That being said, there were numerous teams rumored to have been interested in trading for Williams.<\/p>\n

One of the teams that was frequently mentioned in trade rumors surrounding Williams was the\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers. They also were one of the teams that was said to have been heavily pursuing former Brewers shortstop\u00a0Willy Adames.<\/p>\n

Now they have lost out on both.<\/p>\n

With their two most-coveted former Brewers off the board, the Dodgers turned their attention to a free agent pitcher who spent 2024 in Milwaukee\u2019s farm system:\u00a0Sam Carlson.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Carlson announced on his social media page that he had signed with Los Angeles after spending one year with the Brewers organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to the entire Brewers organization for everything over the past year,\u201d\u00a0Carlson wrote. \u201cThe memories and relationships I built there will stay with me forever. That said, I\u2019m thrilled to announce that I\u2019ve signed with the Dodgers!\u201d<\/p>\n

Carlson pitched for Milwaukee\u2019s Double-A affiliate, the Biloxi Shuckers, and went 4-2 with a 4.25 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 44 appearances.<\/p>\n

A former second round pick by the Seattle Mariners in 2017, Carlson missed three full seasons due to injury and did not really start his professional career until 2021 (COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 minor league season).<\/p>\n

Since he was technically a six-year minor league veteran after the 2023 season, he was allowed to become a free agent, which led him to sign a one-year minor league deal with Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
