While meaningful, inking the 37-year-old and seven-time All-Star is potentially a bigger deal because of the door it opens for the Yankees to add another quality infielder at a position of need.<\/p>\n<p>Star third baseman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/los-angeles-dodgers\/dodgers-nolan-arenado-trade-predicted\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nolan Arenado<\/a>\u00a0spent the last four years alongside Goldschmidt in St. Louis and is among the best players potentially available on the trade market this offseason. [His market remains] strong because a number of teams still have big money to spend,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/insider\/story\/_\/id\/43042910\/mlb-offseason-2024-25-free-agency-trade-rumors-update-passan-arenado-bregman-burnes-alonso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Passan wrote<\/a>. \u201cThe Yankees could move\u00a0Jazz Chisholm Jr. from third to second base, and the\u00a0Mets\u00a0could make a similar infield shuffle with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vientma01.shtml\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Vientos<\/a>\u00a0shifting to first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Jon Morosi of MLB Network subsequently reported that the Red Sox have edged ahead of the field in terms of the pursuit of Bregman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m getting the sense that the Red Sox are more of a possibility than the New York Yankees at the moment,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MLBNetwork\/status\/1869760853136027663\">Morosi said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If the Red Sox are able to land Bregman, that makes New York\u2019s ability to get in on the Arenado bidding that much more important to their immediate prospects to return to the World Series next October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals.
