Cowboys, 49ers among NFC teams eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16<\/h1>\n

Two of the NFL’s bedrock franchise’s won’t be in the playoffs this year<\/h2>\n

They may be “America’s Team,” but the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0will once again watch the\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0with the rest of the country this year. The Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention prior to their Week 16 game against the\u00a0Tampa Bay Buccaneers.<\/p>\n

If misery does in fact love company, the Cowboys have that in the\u00a049ers, who also saw their playoff hopes extinguished just prior to their Week 16 showdown with the\u00a0Miami Dolphins. Both the Cowboys and 49ers entered Week 16 with 6-8 records.<\/p>\n

Another NFC team, the\u00a0Arizona Cardinals, were also eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday. Arizona (7-8) was upset by the\u00a0Carolina Panthers\u00a0on Sunday on the strength of Carolina running back\u00a0Chuba Hubbard’s\u00a0152 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.<\/p>\n

Adding insult to injury for Dallas is the fact that they were eliminated by one of their chief rivals, the\u00a0Washington Commanders, who edged the\u00a0Eagles\u00a0in Week 16 on the strength of two defensive touchdowns. The Commanders’ win also eliminated the 49ers, who join the long list of\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0runner-ups who failed to make the playoffs the following season.<\/p>\n
