According to New York Post columnist Jon Heyman, the Yankees are willing to pay part of the $18 million salary due to Stroman for 2025 to help facilitate a trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Yankees are still trying to trade Marcus Stroman and are willing to pay down his $18M salary,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/09\/sports\/yankees-willingness-to-deal-marcus-stroman-could-help-get-infielder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Heyman wrote<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>After signing left-hander\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/athlonsports.com\/mlb\/player\/max-fried\">Max Fried<\/a>\u00a0this winter, the Yankees\u2019 rotation is full with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/athlonsports.com\/mlb\/player\/gerrit-cole\">Gerrit Cole<\/a>, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and 2024 American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil. He went 9-10 with a 4.31 ERA, his highest since 2018 with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/athlonsports.com\/mlb\/toronto-blue-jays\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>. After a decent first half, posting a 3.31 ERA, Stroman blew up in his last 11 appearances, allowing 33 earned runs in 49 \u2154 innings. They could also save on the luxury tax.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/roster-resource\/payroll\/yankees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FanGraphs&#8217; Roster Resource<\/a>, the Yankees have a $303 million luxury taxable payroll, which is just above the fourth-and-highest tax threshold of $301 million.
