The Cowboys and McCarthy didn\u2019t sign a new deal, with\u00a0NFL Network\u2019s Tom Pelissero\u00a0reporting Monday that the length of contract extension could not be agreed upon.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter\u00a0reported Monday\u00a0that the\u00a0Chicago Bears\u00a0and New Orleans Saints could have interest in McCarthy as they continue searching for new head coaches. The Cowboys denied the Bears\u2019 request to interview McCarthy last week when he was still in his exclusive negotiating window with Dallas, but Chicago won\u2019t have to make a request to interview him now.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.bleacherreport.com\/image\/upload\/w_800,h_533,c_fill\/v1729464285\/toqwro8k7ybowfgtjl0b.jpg\" alt=\"ARLINGTON, TEXAS - OCTOBER 13: Head coach Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys looks on before a game against the Detroit Lions at AT&amp;T Stadium on October 13, 2024 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Sam Hodde\/Getty Images)\" \/><\/p>\n<p>McCarthy went 6-10 in 2020 before going 12-5 in each of the next three seasons before the team regressed to 7-10 in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>While his 49-35 record would typically ensure a contract extension, McCarthy\u2019s postseason blunders could be a reason that owner Jerry Jones is looking elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys lost their first playoff game in January 2022 after Dak Prescott\u2019s infamous scramble as time expired before he could spike the ball. A year later, it was another loss to the\u00a0San Francisco 49ers\u00a0where a\u00a0confusing formation\u00a0on the final play sealed the deal. Last season, the Green Bay Packers went into AT&amp;T Stadium and demolished McCarthy\u2019s squad \u2014 jumping out to a 27-0 lead in the first half en route to a 48-32 win.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2003, the Cowboys have been one of the more stable organizations when it comes to head coaches.
