Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had Mike McCarthy\u2019s back until the very end.<\/p>\n

McCarthy and the\u00a0Cowboys were unable to reach an agreement\u00a0on a new contract this week, leading the team to part ways with the veteran coach after five seasons.<\/p>\n

Throughout the Cowboys\u2019 nightmare 2024 season,\u00a0Prescott had been vocal about his desire to see McCarthy return\u00a0on a new deal. Prescott\u2019s stance did not change even after news broke that McCarthy was given the proverbial boot.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Prescott was asked by DLLS reporter Clarence Hill to\u00a0express how he was feeling\u00a0about McCarthy\u2019s exit.<\/p>\n

\u201cBummed, because we built some things,\u201d Prescott said in a text exchange with Hill. \u201cBut I guess they couldn\u2019t reach an agreement. SMH.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prescott added that he \u201ctakes responsibility for our team being in this position\u201d as the team\u2019s QB. He also described McCarthy as \u201ca great coach and a hell of a man.\u201d<\/p>\n

While many had felt that McCarthy had outworn his welcome in Dallas, it would not have been out of character for Jerry Jones to have brought McCarthy back. Jones kept McCarthy\u2019s predecessor Jason Garrett as the head coach for a full decade despite minimal postseason success. McCarthy\u2019s three playoff appearances matched Garrett\u2019s total in half the time.<\/p>\n

Prescott also said that he\u2019s already looking ahead to the Cowboys\u2019 \u201cfuture<\/p>\n
