Former\u00a0Green Bay Packers\u00a0and\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0head coach Mike McCarthy has already completed an interview with at least one NFL team. On Wednesday,\u00a0McCarthy interviewed in person with the Packers\u2019 rival Chicago Bears, a meeting that McCarthy made via a private jet on Chicago\u2019s dime\u2014something ESPN\u2019s Courtney Cronin stated was irregular compared to the rest of the Bears\u2019 interviews with head coaching candidates.<\/p>\n
Now, reporter\u00a0Nick Underhill is reporting\u00a0that the\u00a0New Orleans Saints\u00a0and McCarthy are beginning the process of scheduling an interview for the former\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0champion to visit New Orleans. So, at least two teams are interested in McCarthy as their next head coach, even if he was dumped by the Cowboys.<\/p>\n
ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter\u00a0also noted on Monday that McCarthy is still a candidate to be hired in Chicago, but that he\u2019s \u201ca legitimate candidate in both places.\u201d You can see the bidding war beginning to simmer.<\/p>\n
McCarthy went 125-77-2 in the regular season with the Packers and 10-8 in the postseason, including a Super Bowl XLV title. After a year out of the sport in 2019, McCarthy returned with the Cowboys where he went 49-35, despite not having starting quarterback Dak Prescott for many of those games, but only mustered a 1-3 record in the playoffs in Dallas.<\/p>\n
The 61-year-old is tied for 11th all-time in postseason wins as an NFL head coach, only behind Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Tom Landry, Don Shula, Joe Gibbs, Chuck Noll, John Harbaugh, Mike Holmgren, Tom Coughlin and Bill Cowher. The only active head coaches with more playoff wins than him are Reid and Harbaugh.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s also worth noting here that McCarthy has previously coached with the Saints, where he was the offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004 under head coach Jim Haslett.
