There still might be hope for the Boston Red Sox to make another big addition before the start of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

To this point, Boston’s top additions are starters\u00a0Garrett Crochet<\/a>\u00a0(trade) and Walker Buehler (signing) and reliever Aroldis Chapman (signing). However, given the Red Sox’s seemingly genuine pursuit of Juan Soto and promises of spending big, some fans still want more, be it\u00a0signing Alex Bregman<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0trading for Nolan Arenado<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While speaking with reporters Monday at Red Sox “Truck Day,” franchise CEO Sam Kennedy said Boston still could make significant additions “depending upon how things play out here over the next couple weeks,” per\u00a0MassLive’s Chris Cotillo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We have the ability to add, if we can match up on deals that make sense, in terms of where we stand right now,” Kennedy said. “I was asked the question earlier in the offseason about the ability to spend. We were engaged in the Juan Soto negotiations. It is something we have the ability to be flexible (with), but it is so player and deal-specific.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to do what’s right for the Red Sox for the short-term, trying to put a team out there that’s built to win in 2025, but also what makes sense for the long term.”<\/p>\n

Kennedy added: “Definitely don’t think we’re done trying to add to this complement of guys we have. Excited about who we have but also have room to continue to add. There’s confidence in this group, for sure, starting with Alex Cora and the coaching staff. But we’d like to add more. You’d always like to add more.”<\/p>\n

Kennedy also gave a mysterious answer when asked about Boston’s rumored pursuit of Bregman.<\/p>\n

“I’m not allowed to talk about any specific free agent negotiations or anything,” Kennedy said. “But given that he’s unsigned, I think that speaks for itself.”<\/p>\n

Red Sox pitchers and catchers will report to spring training on Feb. 11. The first full-squad workout is scheduled for Feb. 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
