We don’t deny that among the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys<\/a>\u00a0top needs entering the 2025\u00a0NFL<\/a>\u00a0offseason is at wide receiver – and not as “depth.”<\/p>\n

Behind star wideout\u00a0CeeDee Lamb<\/a>, there are plenty of bodies – that is, “depth.”<\/p>\n

No, what the Cowboys lack is a reliably explosive running mate to the All-Pro Lamb.<\/p>\n

The sexiest idea being floated centers on Bengals star Tee Higgins, who is entering free agency.<\/p>\n

But on Monday, another name popped up.<\/p>\n

“I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships,” Kupp revealed in a message on social media.<\/p>\n

Kupp is clearly displeased with the decision, which comes after he totaled just 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns – the third straight season in which he’s failed to reach 1,000 yards.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA,” he said. “Still, if there\u2019s one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember.”<\/p>\n

Many believe the Cowboys will target a\u00a0top wide receiver<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0NFL Draft<\/a>\u00a0like Missouri star Luther Burden III, who figures as a possibility with the No. 12 overall pick.<\/p>\n

But even before Kupp went public with his announcement,\u00a0Bleacher Report<\/a>\u00a0called the Cowboys a potential “top landing spot” for the former All-Pro and\u00a0Super Bowl<\/a>-winning wide receiver Kupp from the\u00a0Los Angeles Rams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

BR’s view? Kupp could be viewed as “an insurance policy for a team that fielded a pass-heavy offense in 2024.”<\/p>\n

The problems here are many.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Kupp led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns – the NFL’s “triple crowd.” He was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.<\/p>\n

Wrote Kupp: “Preparations start now for 2025. Highly motivated, as healthy as ever, and looking forward to playing elite football for years to come. Love you (Rams fans) guys. But coming for it all.”<\/p>\n

But that now seems like a long time ago.<\/p>\n

Kupp is about to turn 32. In the last three years,\u00a0injuries have limited him to playing nine, 12 and 12 games.<\/p>\n

Oh, and one other problem: Kupp is currently under contract through 2026 with a salary of about $28 million for each year.<\/p>\n
