Then they watched the Dodgers beat them to signing the most widely sought-after pitcher on the free agent market:\u00a0Roki Sasaki.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second consecutive offseason in which the Dodgers signed a coveted free-agent pitcher from Japan. In Dec. 2023, the Dodgers signed right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto to a\u00a012-year, $325 million free-agent contract.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees were interested in signing Yamamoto and Sasaki as well. The Dodgers have done a great job of somehow securing those players and making that a destination spot. They obviously had a great recruiter in Shohei Ohtani. That creates a home-field advantage probably because of his relationships over there. Yamamoto finalized his contract with Los Angeles weeks later, recruited by Ohtani\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/dodgersnation.com\/yoshinobu-yamamoto-details-how-shohei-ohtani-recruited-him-to-dodgers\/2023\/12\/27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">among others<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers needed five games to beat the Yankees in the 2024 World Series to secure their eighth championship. Yamamoto and Ohtani, the reigning National League Most Valuable Player, each played key roles during the Dodgers&#8217; postseason run.<\/p>\n<p>Joel Wolfe, the agent to Sasaki and Yamamoto, also used the metaphor of a &#8220;<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/sports\/mlb\/roki-sasakis-agent-dodgers-had-home-field-advantage-during-free-agent-pursuit-2019377\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">home field advantage<\/a>&#8221; to describe the Dodgers&#8217; leg up in luring free agents from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was in Japan many times over the last couple years, but especially this year,&#8221; Wolfe\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/sports\/mlb\/roki-sasakis-agent-dodgers-had-home-field-advantage-during-free-agent-pursuit-2019377\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in January<\/a>. &#8220;Every single Dodgers game is broadcast live. So when you wake up every morning in Japan, every (Dodgers) game is on TV because of (Shohei) Ohtani and (Yoshinobu) Yamamoto.
