\u00a0Red Sox\u00a0prospect\u00a0Jhostynxon Garcia\u00a0is known by the nickname\u00a0\u201cThe Password.\u201d<\/p>\n

For some, that\u2019s much easier to say than his unique first name, which looks like a password.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Password\u201d originated in October 2021 from the X account\u00a0@InsideFastball, which tweeted last year, \u201cThought the use of consonants was unique & reminiscent of a password… Jhostynxon saw it and graciously adopted it as his own!\u201d<\/p>\n

For manager Alex Cora, he simply calls the 22-year-old outfielder \u201cGarcia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood swing,\u201d Cora said Wednesday at JetBlue Park. \u201cHe moves in the outfield, too. He\u2019s a big dude but he moves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garcia was 6 feet, 215 pounds at the end of last season<\/p>\n

\u201cToday in batting practice \u2014 I made a point of being with the outfielders today. And he hits the ball hard to right-center. So he\u2019s impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boston added Garcia to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from Rule 5 Draft eligibility.<\/p>\n

He batted .286 with a .356 on-base percentage, .536 slugging percentage, .892 OPS, 23 homers, 24 doubles, five triples, 66 RBIs, 78 runs, 17 steals, 33 walks and 99 strikeouts in 107 games (459 plate appearances) combined between Low-A Salem, High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland during a breakout 2024 season.<\/p>\n

He made 61 starts in center field, 28 starts in right field, two starts in left field and 16 at DH.<\/p>\n

Baseball America ranks him the No. 8 prospect in the Red Sox’ system.<\/p>\n

His Baseball America scouting report noted, \u201cGarcia holds nothing back in his righthanded swing, following a rhythmic leg lift with a violent hip rotation that sets in motion a furious swing meant to sledgehammer balls to his pull side. Garcia\u2019s raw power had been evident in the past, but he got to it with significantly increased frequency in 2024, posting a 90th percentile exit velocity of 105 mph and topping out at 113.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
