{"id":27349,"date":"2025-02-20T02:49:20","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T02:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatoday.azontree.com\/?p=27349"},"modified":"2025-02-20T02:49:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T02:49:20","slug":"breaking-yoshinobu-yamamoto-set-to-start-dodgers-spring-training-opener-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatoday.azontree.com\/?p=27349","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;BREAKING: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Set to Start Dodgers\u2019 Spring Training Opener Thursday!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-entry-summary p-dek\">In preparation for starting opening day against the Cubs in Japan, Yamamoto on Thursday will also start against the Cubs in the first Cactus League game, too.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1hkV1J\">Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start the\u00a0Dodgers\u2019 Cactus League opener on Thursday against the\u00a0Cubs, officially kicking off the\u00a0club\u2019s slate of 20 games in 20 days in the Arizona portion of their spring training.<\/p>\n<p id=\"aZwcky\">Manager Dave Roberts\u00a0told reporters Wednesday morning\u00a0at Camelback Ranch\u00a0of Yamamoto\u2019s start.<\/p>\n<p id=\"HEXlnR\">Yamamoto\u00a0will start the Dodgers\u2019 regular season opener at the Tokyo Dome, against\u00a0Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga on March 18, making for two Japanese starting pitchers on the mound in Japan to open the 2025 regular season. The two games in Tokyo\u00a0will be televised by Fox Sports nationally and SportsNet LA locally.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-float-right\">\n<aside id=\"IBC1nm\">\n<div class=\"c-read-more\">\n<div class=\"c-entry-content \">\n<p id=\"LhXTDy\">Factoring in that Yamamoto will get at least five days of rest between game outings, and eyeing the calendar, there is time for him to make four Cactus League starts before the team departs for Japan.<\/p>\n<p id=\"sg5vS3\">Starting the regular season isn\u2019t ideal for building pitchers\u2019 stamina, but with only two games to play, there will be heavy relief usage in those games in Japan even if the starters do well.
