Patrick Mahomes<\/strong>\u00a0did not waste any time switching up his hairstyle after the Kansas City Chiefs got blown out in the Super Bowl.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with\u00a0Us Weekly<\/i>, Mahomes\u2019 barber,\u00a0DeJuan Bonds<\/strong>, said the quarterback\u2019s polarizing haircut happened on February 11, less than 48 hours after\u00a0the Chiefs\u2019 drubbing at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles\u00a0in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bonds conceded that Mahomes, 29, was eager to make a change after the defeat, which brought a shocking end to the Chiefs\u2019 quest to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere might be a little bit of truth to that,\u201d Bonds told Us. \u201cMost of it came from the fact that he\u2019s always been wanting to do it. But the Super Bowl loss might have ramped it up by a couple of days or weeks, sure.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bonds, who has been working with Mahomes for years, revealed he and Mahomes actually talked about performing the haircut \u201cbefore the season,\u201d but didn\u2019t want to hinder the Chiefs\u2019 success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe said we weren\u2019t going to mess with past superstitions,\u201d Bonds explained. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t trying to mess with it and cut his hair before the football season. It was one of those things he had been wanting to do for a while. But he wanted to wait until after the Super Bowl. He was like, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s time to give me a new look.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahomes officially debuted the new haircut in public on\u00a0a <\/a>Monday, February 25, date night with his wife,\u00a0Brittany Mahomes<\/strong>,\u00a0as the couple attended a college basketball game between his alma mater, Texas Tech, and Houston in Lubbock, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new \u2018cut has been incredibly divisive on social media, but Bonds said he was \u201cnot surprised\u201d about the feedback.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people have mixed reviews about his hair and how they wanted him to cut it off or how they wanted him to keep it,\u201d Bonds explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact,\u00a0Mahomes\u2019 fresh look was supposed to be even more drastic\u00a0before Bonds had to step in and convince the football star otherwise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole time that I\u2019ve been cutting his hair, he just lets me do what I do,\u201d said Bonds, who owns Purple Label Barbershop in Overland Park, Kansas. \u201cBut when he asked for a change, he basically was like, \u2018Just cut me all off.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bonds continued, \u201cI was like, \u2018No, no, no. We\u2019re not just going to cut it all off.\u2019 We\u2019re actually going to collab on this and go a little bit at a time, take it a little bit down. We kind of came to a common ground like, \u2018OK, this is the cut, this is the cut, this is the length.\u2019 It was a collaboration on this last one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
