The\u00a0Philadelphia Eagles\u00a0are releasing cornerback Darius Slay after he spent five years with the team. It\u2019s a cost-cutting move \u2013 Philly will be saving $4.3 million in cap space \u2013 and it is one that will be designated as a post-June 1 cut.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all very emotional for Slay and his family right now. But in Baltimore? It should be all business.<\/p>\n

Slay said last offseason during an appearance on the\u00a0\u201cPulp Fiction\u201d\u00a0podcast that he nearly signed with the Ravens\u00a0but was urged to stay in Philadelphia thanks to a call Eagles security chief Dom \u201cBig Dom\u201d DiSandro.<\/p>\n

\u201cDom is the reason I came back to Philly,\u201d Slay said.\u00a0\u201cI almost was for sure a Baltimore Raven. I really committed to the Ravens and was gonna go. Then Dom called me and said, \u2018Slay, I want you here.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018You know what, Dom? You calling me, I\u2019m coming back.’\u201d<\/p>\n

It all worked out. Slay, at 35 a 6-time Pro Bowler, helped Philly win the\u00a0Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

During his five seasons with\u00a0the Eagles, Slay served as a cornerstone of the defense, recording nine interceptions, 56 pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries across 74 games. His veteran presence was crucial for Philadelphia\u2019s secondary. \u2026 and he obviously could do the same for his next employer as well.<\/p>\n

Once this all shakes out? He very well may re-up again with the Eagles. He has also spoken openly about finding his way back to Detroit, where he once played for the Lions.<\/p>\n

It seems pretty clear he wants to play one more year. And he has every reason to want to do that with a contender, a team that gives him one more crack at another Super Bowl ring.<\/p>\n

The Eagles can obviously do that. So can the Lions.<\/p>\n
