The Red Sox will have to wait a little bit longer for Rafael Devers\u2019 2025 spring training debut.<\/p>\n
Devers was supposed to see his first game action in Fort Myers, Fla., either Tuesday or Wednesday, but the three-time All-Star won\u2019t suit up until Saturday. Boston is\u00a0erring on the side of caution\u00a0with Devers, who continues to recover from sore shoulders.<\/p>\n
Prior to the Red Sox\u2019s exhibition clash with the Atlanta Braves, Devers will take live batting practice against Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler, per MassLive\u2019s Sean McAdam citing an update from Alex Cora. Boston\u2019s manager also provided\u00a0a more detailed explanation\u00a0of Devers\u2019 rehab process.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been on point as far as what he needs, as far as the swing,\u201d Devers told reporters, per McAdam. \u201cThe whole path on the inside pitch is something that he lost last year, because of the shoulders. He\u2019s been working very hard on that path.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a different swing; it\u2019s just a different path, to be honest with you. It\u2019s been trending in the right direction. He\u2019s been off a little bit. Last week, he felt like he wasn\u2019t getting to pitches and all that. I get that the whole thing (about playing on) the big field. But it\u2019s two at-bats (per game) against big leaguers; he\u2019s actually getting more at-bats in the back fields. He\u2019s getting there, he\u2019s getting there.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole progress, from when he got here in January to where he\u2019s at now, he feels a lot more comfortable with the inside pitch. We saw it last year \u2014 he got beat by fastballs after (getting hurt) in Colorado a lot. I think the work he\u2019s put in there has been good. The way he\u2019s driving the ball to left-center is something that he missed last year and he wasn\u2019t able to do it. Right now, he\u2019s in that spot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cora also noted Devers didn\u2019t do any swinging over the course of the winter, as the main objective for that time period was to \u201cget his shoulders right.\u201d And when Devers does become available for spring training games, he\u2019ll \u201cget some reps\u201d\u00a0at third base, per Cora.<\/p>\n
