The\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0have\u00a0Patrick Mahomes\u00a0to thank for their free agency signings this offseason.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the Chiefs agreed to a\u00a0two-year, $30 million contract with offensive tackle Jaylon Moore. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the\u00a0San Francisco 49ers. They also signed running back Elijah Mitchell in hopes of revitalizing their backfield.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs continued their “spending spree” on Tuesday by agreeing to terms on a two-year, $20 million contract with veteran cornerback Kristian Fulton. He should form a nice duo with Trent McDuffie.<\/p>\n

Coming into free agency, the Chiefs were towards the bottom half of the league in cap space.<\/p>\n

So, how are the Chiefs affording their free agents? They worked out simple restructures to Chris Jones and Patrick\u00a0Mahomes’ contracts to free up $49.4 million in cap space. That has Kansas City fans convinced that at least one major move is on the way.<\/p>\n

“A big name coming,” one fan wrote on X.<\/p>\n

Another fan asked, “Who are they gonna get?”<\/p>\n

“Chiefs aren\u2019t done\u2026 Veach has his apron on, ready to cook,” a third fan commented.<\/p>\n

Mahomes agreed to a 10-year, $450,000 contract with the Chiefs several years ago. While that deal may seem expensive, it’s actually a bargain for the team given the current quarterback market. It also gives the front office the flexibility to constantly manipulate his cap hit for each given season.<\/p>\n

This Wednesday’s restructure is further proof that Mahomes’ current contract with the Chiefs is somewhat of a cheat code.<\/p>\n
