It turns out Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones may have used a correct term when describing the team\u2019s outlook as \u201cselectively aggressive\u201d heading into the NFL offseason.<\/p>\n<p>On March 12, 2025, the Cowboys acquired cornerback\u00a0Kaiir Elam\u00a0in a trade with the\u00a0Buffalo Bills.\u00a0Dallas traded\u00a0a 2025 fifth-round selection and 2026 seventh-round pick to Buffalo. The Cowboys received Elam and a 2025 sixth-round pick in the deal.<\/p>\n<p>It is a low risk move as Dallas essentially traded a late-round pick swap and future seventh rounder for Elam. The corner\u2019s deal comes with a club option for a fifth season in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Following a standout college football career for the Florida Gators, the Bills selected Elam with the No. 23 pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Elam posted 26 tackles, two pass deflections and a forced fumble in 13 appearances during the 2024 season.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_2_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-2 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_2\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The speedster notched a 4.39-second 40 time at the 2022 NFL combine.\u00a0NFL.com\u2019s Lance Zierlein\u00a0compared Elam to Jaylon Johnson heading into the NFL draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElam is the next up in a long line of talented Florida cornerbacks, but he failed to play his best football in his final collegiate season,\u201d Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of Elam. \u201cHe is patient and strong to mirror and impede releases but inconsistent staying connected to the early stages of the route. He plays with good awareness in zone and has the twitch and length to make plays on the throw when squatting in space.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_3_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-3 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_3\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe was beat on deep patterns against Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia, which might have led to excessive grabbing and an overall lack of trust in his technique on the 2021 tape. He plays big at the catch point but smaller in run support. Elam has early CB3 and eventual CB2 value as a press and zone corner.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Cowboys Also Landed Linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. in a Trade With the Titans<\/h2>\n<p>Elam appears to be plenty motivated to make a name for himself in Dallas. The newest Cowboys cornerback described himself as \u201chungry\u201d and will aim to play with a \u201cchip on my shoulder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a chip on my shoulder,\u201d Elam told\u00a0DallasCowboys.com\u2019s Patrik Walker\u00a0during a March 14, interview. \u201cI\u2019m hungry.
