TheNew York Giants\u00a0officially ended their experiment with\u00a0Daniel Jones\u00a0on Friday, and the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0were a rumored destination for the quarterback. After demoting the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft to QB4 in practice this week, the Giants released Jones.<\/span>Advertisement<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The former standout quarterback for the Duke Blue Devils will hit the waiver wire, but because of his contract, the 27-year-old is expected to land in free agency for a team to sign this season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Per Nick Korte, there are good\u00a0incentives\u00a0for teams to sign Jones. A team that signs the veteran quarterback this season would get compensatory pick credit if Jones leaves in free agency to sign with another organization as a backup or starter.<\/p>\n

Just catching up to hearing that Daniel Jones was cut, so maybe this has been said already, but as the Comp Pick Guy I should note that if a team signs him this season, they can get compensatory pick credit for him next season\u2014& even backup QBs usually get paid enough to qualify.<\/span><\/p>\n

Korte suggested the Dallas Cowboys would be a\u00a0logical<\/a>\u00a0option.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 3-7 Cowboys are starting backup quarterback Cooper Rush with Dak Prescott out for the season with a hamstring injury. The Cowboys have been\u00a0outscored\u00a068-16 in Rush\u2019s last two starts. Adding Jones and a future draft pick would make sense for a team that needs to rebuild in 2025.<\/p>\n

Per NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Cowboys are not\u00a0interested<\/a>\u00a0in adding Jones.<\/span><\/p>\n
