The\u00a0D<\/a>allas Cowboys\u00a0were in the headlines on Thursday due to their acquisition of Joe Milton III from the\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0to be\u00a0Dak Prescott\u2018s backup quarterback. Prior to that, though, Cowboys fans found their organization making headlines for a far less positive reason, one that, of course, involved something foolish said by owner\u00a0Jerry Jones.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters at the NFL owners meetings this week, Jones claimed that he is handling Micah Parsons\u2019 high-profile contract negotiation himself. What is more, he said that he is talking to the four-time Pro Bowler personally, and not going through his agent.<\/p>\n

<\/span>\u201cI spent five, six hours with him myself and had a lot of discussions,\u201d Jones said. \u201cMost of the issues we\u2019re in agreement on and discussed it all. But we obviously don\u2019t have an agreement relative to a new contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not uncommon for me to visit directly with players. And in this particular case, it\u2019s what I\u2019m doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe agent is not a factor here or something to worry about. And I don\u2019t know his name. My point is, I\u2019m not trying to demean him, but this isn\u2019t about an agent. \u2026 I\u2019m not demeaning the agent. I\u2019m just saying everybody can do this, and that\u2019s talk directly to a player.<\/p>\n

<\/span>\u201cAnd frankly most people that negotiate with me will tell me that that was better.\u201d<\/p>\n

NFL fans from multiple fanbases, not just Cowboys faithful, dragged Jones on social media for his comments. Even Parsons addressed it on social media, stating that no negotiations would take place unless his agent, David Mulugheta, was the one handling them.<\/p>\n

<\/span>While Jones\u2019 comments regarding Mulugheta were insulting to the agent, the only thing he is worried about is his client.\u00a0According to\u00a0Pro Football Talk<\/em>, Mulugheta said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI agree with Jerry\u2014it\u2019s never been about me,\u201d Mulugheta told PFT via text message on Wednesday morning. \u201cThe only person that matters here is Micah, and, at the end of the day, our goal is for Micah to be able to do for generations of Parsons what Jerry has done for generations of Jones.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
