The Ravens are qualified to give Miller that chance thanks to a Championship-caliber roster, but they could use somebody with the experience of winning the biggest games in the clutch moments of a season.<\/p>\n<p>It helps \u201cBaltimore is obviously open to adding older players to help chase a championship in 2025\u2014it added 32-year-old receiver DeAndre Hopkins early in free agency\u2014and Miller could be an asset. He logged six sacks while playing just 33 percent of the defensive snaps in Buffalo last season,\u201d according to\u00a0Bleacher Report\u2019s Kristopher Knox.<\/p>\n<p>Those numbers cited by Knox show Miller still has the engine and skills to put pressure on the pocket. He\u2019d fit the Ravens beautifully in a situational role \u201cto complement Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the deal has a downside it would involve the Ravens getting older, not younger, in the pass-rush department. Not to mention Miller\u2019s presence potentially blocking the development of a fringe edge-rusher like\u00a0David Ojabo.<\/p>\n<h2>Von Miller Retains Skills Ravens Need<\/h2>\n<p>Miller hasn\u2019t lost the core traits that have allowed him to amass\u00a0129.5 career sacks\u00a0and put on an MVP performance for the 2015 Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Those traits showed up with the\u00a0Buffalo Bills\u00a0last season, notably for this takedown of\u00a0Drake Maye\u00a0against the\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0in Week 18.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0Aaron Day of DLineVids pointed out, Miller utilized \u201ca great get off\u201d and made clever use of his hands to get to the quarterback.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-content entry-content\">\n<p>Miller still has a quick first step after 13 pro seasons. He\u2019s somebody Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr could trust to be disruptive on obvious passing downs.<\/p>\n<p>Rotating Miller with fellow 30-something veteran\u00a0Kyle Van Noy\u00a0and breakout player\u00a0Odafe Oweh\u00a0would give an erratic pass rush the missing X-factor. That\u2019s something the Ravens can\u2019t count on\u00a0brittle and inconsistent\u00a0Ojabo to provide, but they can still go younger on the edges.<\/p>\n<h2>Ravens Can Get Younger on the Edges<\/h2>\n<p>Aside from Miller, the Ravens could\u00a0make a smart trade\u00a0for a more youthful edge defender who compares favorably to Van Noy. It\u2019s another possible way to safeguard against having to\u00a0move on from\u00a0Oweh, who is a free agent in a year.<\/p>\n<p>Dealing Oweh before the 2025 NFL draft would give general manager Eric DeCosta incentive to dip into this rookie class for pass rush help. There are intriguing options for the 27th-overall pick, including Tennessee\u2019s James Pearce Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever they do, the Ravens need a coherent strategy for improving the edges of their front seven. The plan to have Ojabo\u00a0occupy a situational role\u00a0hasn\u2019t succeeded, while imposing physical specimen\u00a0Tavius Robinson\u00a0remains a work in progress.<\/p>\n<p>DeCosta handing Miller a one-year deal would at least give the defense a proven specialist in the short term.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getty A former Super Bowl MVP who&#8217;s still a free agent &#8220;makes sense&#8221; for the Baltimore Ravens.
