Novak Djokovic entered Monte Carlo as the world No 5, and defending 400 ranking points as a result of his semi-final performance at the tournament in 2024.<\/p>\n

However, the 24-time Grand Slam champion suffered an upset to Alejandro Tabilo, with the Chilean prevailing 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.<\/p>\n

As a result, Djokovic will lose 390 of those points when the ATP rankings are published on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Serb\u2019s performance on the court was a surprise to many, and, according to the man himself, somewhat of a shock to the former world No 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was actually more like the worst day,\u201d stated Djokovic.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I was hoping this is not going to happen, but it was quite a high probability I\u2019m going to play this way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, just horrible. Horrible feeling to play this way and I\u2019m just sorry for all the people that have to witness this.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I expected myself at least to have put a decent performance. Not like this, I mean this is horrible. I did not have high expectations, really. I knew I\u2019m going to have a tough opponent, and I knew I\u2019m going to probably play pretty bad. But this bad, I didn\u2019t expect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite losing 390 points, Djokovic will most likely remain as the world No 5 after the Monte-Carlo Masters.<\/p>\n

Jack Draper, his nearest rankings rival, sits just 250 points behind the former world No 1 in the rankings after claiming the Indian Wells title in March. However, the Brit fell to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4 in the third round of the tournament \u2013 meaning that he only gains 90 ranking points, and cannot jump up from the sixth spot.<\/p>\n

Casper Ruud is the current world No 7, however, he will fall to \u2013 at least- the world No 10 spot as a result of his loss to Alexi Popyrin in the last 16. Ruud reached the final last year, meaning that he will lose 550 ranking points in the newly published rankings.<\/p>\n

Likewise, Andrey Rublev also had an outside chance to overtake Djokovic, but was dominated 6-2, 6-3 by Arthur Fils. As a result, he only gained 90 rankings points and, at the time of writing, is in the seventh spot of the live ATP rankings.<\/p>\n

However, one player can overtake Djokovic \u2013 Alex de Minaur.<\/p>\n

To do it, the Australian must win the title, which would be his first Masters 1000 title.<\/p>\n

If he does, de Minaur would have 4135 ranking points which is 15 more than the Serbian superstar.<\/p>\n
