It was a near picture-perfect ending from Garrett Crochet in his return to Chicago, as the\u00a0Boston Red Sox\u00a0took the third game of this set to avoid the sweep, 3-1. In what we knew already was going to be a pitchers\u2019 duel did not disappoint, as Shane Smith and Crochet went back-and-forth the whole game.<\/p>\n

In fact, for the first five innings, Crochet and Smith cruised by their respective opposing lineups without a run, and rumblings of a no-hitter from Crochet were starting to come alive.<\/p>\n

The first two runs of the game came in the top of the sixth inning with two outs, after Alex Bregman singled and Wilyer Abreu walked. Trevor Story took advantage, hitting a two-run double to give the bad Sox a 2-0 lead. From there, things were starting to to feel like Crochet might do something historic. He continued to cruise, with the exception of a Brooks Baldwin walk in the bottom of the sixth inning.<\/p>\n

Smith was removed from the ballgame after six innings, five hits, two runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n
