The\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0still have a great deal of work to do before the start of the 2025 NFL season. For the second year in a row, they need to find a replacement for a 1,000-yard running back that they allowed to leave in free agency. After the 2023 season, they saw\u00a0Tony Pollard, who had run for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons, leave for the\u00a0Tennessee Titans. This offseason,\u00a0Rico Dowdle\u00a0signed with the\u00a0Carolina Panthers.<\/p>\n

As they proved last year, though, the Cowboys simply do not value the running back position enough to spend big money on it. They could have signed\u00a0Derrick Henry\u00a0last offseason, but he ended up signing a two-year $16 million contract with the\u00a0Baltimore Ravens. Dallas did not even try to call him.<\/p>\n

Instead, the Cowboys have been more focused on signing their own stars, as indicated by last year\u2019s massive extensions given to\u00a0Dak Prescott\u00a0and\u00a0CeeDee Lamb. But\u00a0Micah Parsons, the four-time Pro Bowler, needs a new contract, too.<\/p>\n

The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons Are Far Apart on Contract Talks<\/h2>\n

Parsons is currently scheduled to play the 2025 NFL season on his fifth-year option, worth over $24 million. However, if Dallas wants him to stick around long-term, it would be in their best interest to sign him to a contract extensions.<\/p>\n

And while the two parties are working out the perameters of a new deal, they are not anywhere close to an agreement.\u00a0Per ESPN, Cowboys executive Stephen Jones said, \u201cBelieve me, if we could sign Micah to a number we wanted to sign him to, we\u2019d do it right now. But right now there\u2019s a difference in what we feel like is the right number and what he feels like is the right number.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/span>Despite this difference in opinion, Parsons has been participating in the voluntary workouts that are part of Dallas\u2019 offseason program. As fans may recall, Lamb skipped these workouts, as well as part of training camp, while he waited for his new deal last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assumption here is that we\u2019re going to get something done and so he knows or should know how important his work is around here and how important his being around here working is to leadership,\u201d Jerry Jones said of Parsons participating even though he does not have a new contract yet. \u201cIt\u2019s a big deal. It\u2019s the main reason why I\u2019ve kind of taken some of the attitude I\u2019ve taken about this thing. Micah just has to be elevated in his leadership and will be, or it will be a downer when he gets his anticipated contract. It will be a downer if he does not elevate leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

It sounds like both parties are optimistic that they will be able to get a deal done. However, for the time being, they are not close to one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
