Cleveland Browns draftee Shedeur Sanders opened up about his and Deion’s reaction to him getting drafted in the fifth round on Saturday.<\/div>\n

Shedeur Sanders\u00a0hung around the\u00a0NFL Draft\u00a0boards until the fifth round on Saturday. It was a tremendous fall from grace for a player who was talked about going in the top of the first round.<\/p>\n

Shedeur opened up about his discussions with his father and comments that\u00a0Deion Sanders\u00a0made after his son went so late in the draft. He also shared what it was like to go through such a tumultuous time.<\/p>\n

“He said, \u2018God got us.\u2019 So that\u2019s what it is,” Shedeur said of Dad\u2019s 3-word reaction.<\/p>\n

Shedeur, a Dallas-area native. is trying to look at what comes next as the opportunity it is.<\/p>\n

“All the stakes raised and that\u2019s why I thrive in those high-pressure moments. So I never felt any type of way, I never felt any type of way. I understood, \u2018okay, this is the route\u2019 and that\u2019s it.”<\/p>\n

When most people mention Shedeur Sanders there is usually a comment made about his legendary father, the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys icon. \u00a0It could be a heavy load to carry such a legendary name while trying to establish your own career as a player in the sport your father dominated for so long.<\/p>\n

But Shedeur Sanders said it is “never a burden” being the son of a legend\u00a0like his father.<\/p>\n

“I wouldn\u2019t look at that as that. I feel like everybody, God makes everybody have their own routes, and this is just my route,” he said. “Like there\u2019s nothing I would be able to go back and wish that wasn\u2019t my dad because I\u2019m truly thankful for him being there and the structure I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shedeur said the agonizing experience of the draft weekend never changed his love for the game or the view of the\u00a0NFL as a business.<\/p>\n

“No, nothing really affected me the last couple of days. \u2026 \u00a0God really had me and I\u2019m favored, I\u2019m blessed,” he said. “Besides that, it\u2019s not really anything that changed, the love of the game, is still the love of the game.
