Micah Parsons\u00a0appears to be heading into the summer without a contract extension. A storyline throughout the entire offseason of the Dallas Cowboys, a deal has yet to be worked out. Parsons is primed to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL once the two come to an agreement, though.<\/p>\n
Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones provided the latest on Monday, admitting it\u2019s \u201ca work in progress\u201d at the moment. Jones remains confident Parsons will be with the team moving forward, as both sides have an interest in getting the extension done at some point.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve never been one to crystal ball when contracts get done,\u201d Jones\u00a0said. \u201cYou can be close, you think you\u2019re right around the corner, and then they get pushed out and there\u2019s extenuating circumstances as to why they or their agent don\u2019t wanna pull the trigger. So, that\u2019s just a work in progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s never easy to comment on them because you really don\u2019t know where you are until both sides are ready to go. But obviously our goal is to, and we have visited at times with Micah, and our goal is to get him here. And I think Micah wants to be a Cowboy, and we want him to be a Cowboy long term.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is nothing new for the Cowboys when it comes to star players looking to get paid. Parsons saw the situations\u00a0Dak Prescott\u00a0and\u00a0CeeDee Lamb dragged into training camp and nearly into the regular season. Lamb missed a lot of preseason work while Prescott\u2019s extension was announced just before Dallas faced Cleveland in Week 1.<\/p>\n
What we do know is that there will be no holdout from Parsons if there is no signed contract by then. During the\u00a02025 NFL Draft, Parsons confirmed\u00a0he will be at training camp no matter the circumstances.<\/p>\n
Ideally, for Parsons, this would all be over before then. Being as competitive as anyone in the league, going into training camp with no external distractions is his goal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s extremely important,\u201d Parsons said, via\u00a0Patrik Walker\u00a0of\u00a0DallasCowboys.com<\/em>\u00a0of training camp. \u201cI mean, you really see a lot of players struggle when guys aren\u2019t participating in camp and they\u2019re getting off to slow starts. Don\u2019t wanna get off to a slow start. I wanna hit the ground running and establish ourselves in this league and get some wins early in the season and be in rhythm.
