The Pittsburgh Steelers have\u00a0confirmed\u00a0that free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers will sign with them this offseason, ending the off-season\u2019s waiting game:<\/p>\n

Maybe for an incredibly cheap price.<\/p>\n

An\u00a0NFL\u00a0source had suggested to us that the deal might be valued in the $30 million range. \u2026 but Rodgers \u2013 who is expected fly to Pittsburgh soon and participate in the upcoming mandatory minicamp next week \u2013 once suggested to ESPN\u2019s Pat McAfee that he\u2019d play for \u201c$10 million\u201d because the money doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n

Was he joking?<\/p>\n

Or was he being literal?<\/p>\n

The Steelers front office now sees their patience and optimism pay off as they completely built their\u00a0NFL Draft\u00a0plan based on the assumption that Rodgers would sign and allow them to target other needs outside of a quarterback \u2026 although they only had Mason Rudolph on contract. Pittsburgh would ultimately draft Will Howard as well, but they now fall down the depth chart to back up the four-time MVP.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And they might see it done on the cheap.<\/p>\n

Rodgers enters the AFC North with the opportunity to draw the Steelers closer to contention with the\u00a0Baltimore Ravens\u00a0for the division crown. Last season, the Steelers finished second with a 10-7 record \u2013 two games behind the division champion Ravens.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old is coming off a lousy 2024 campaign with the\u00a0New York Jets, but with a better supporting cast and new environment to ease his mental state (as best it can), hopefully Rodgers\u2019 play will see a bit of resurgence.<\/p>\n

He joins forces with star receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Pat Freiermuth as solid receiving targets along with an eclectic group of pass catchers in Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods to work with.<\/p>\n

Rookie running back Kaleb Johnson may start after Najee Harris left in free agency, so the pass game quickly turns into the Steelers expected identity rather than the run with an inexperienced ball carrier.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh likely still prefers their chances this season with Rodgers much more than last year\u2019s cycle between Russell Wilson and\u00a0Justin Fields\u00a0under center, despite the team\u2019s moderate success.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And a $10 million deal for one year helps, too.<\/p>\n

Is all of this enough to win the division? It\u2019s too early to tell.<\/p>\n

But if Rodgers ends up gaining credibility by playing for a fraction of what other \u201cstar QBs\u201d make? It\u2019s certainly a step in the right direction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
