While\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0quarterback\u00a0Patrick Mahomes\u00a0prepares for the 2025\u00a0NFL\u00a0season, he’s also cheering on his alma mater, Texas Tech University and the school’s\u00a0softball team.<\/p>\n

Red Raiders superstar pitcher Nijaree Canady helped the lead the team to their first Women’s College Word Series appearance in school history.<\/p>\n

After Mahomes sent the team personalized letterman jackets and new Adidas sneakers, the three-time\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0MVP and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, traveled to Oklahoma City to watch the Red Raiders take on the\u00a0Texas Longhorns\u00a0in Game 2 of the WCWS.<\/p>\n

After taking a Game 1 loss, Texas Tech evened the series with a 4-3 win with the Mahomes in attendance.<\/p>\n

Brittany and Mahomes returned to Devon Park to watch the series-clinching Game 3. Canady, pitching for the third-straight game, got blown up for five runs in the first inning, and the Red Raiders couldn’t force comeback.<\/p>\n

While Texas won their first-ever WCWS championship with a 10-4 victory, the Red Raiders’ future looks bright, especially with Canady set to return for another season.<\/p>\n

Canady, the first softball player to sign a $1 million NIL deal, inked another 7-figure contract with the Matador Club, the Red Raiders collective. Brittany celebrated the big news on June 7.<\/p>\n

She posted the exciting announcement and wrote, “Invest in women’s sports & athletes. Hell of a run @nija.canady \ud83d\udc4f\ud83c\udffb\ud83d\udc4f\ud83c\udffb.”<\/p>\n

Derrick Shelby, Canady’s manager, told\u00a0ESPN, “Nija Canady is the most electrifying player in softball. She’s box office and she goes out every day and competes.<\/p>\n

“The decision to stay at Tech was not difficult. This program has taken care of her. They have showed how much she is appreciated. The entire staff, her teammates, the school in general have been great. Tonight she is playing for a national championship and she is making history.
