It looks like the Los Angeles Chargers are still looking to salvage their offense as the team brought in Willie Snead for a tryout this week.\u00a0According to reports, the Chargers, like most NFL teams, started their mandatory camp, but a few are bringing in veterans for a tryout, and one of them for Los Angeles includes Snead. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2014, the former Ball State product began his career on the practice squad before earning a spot with the New Orleans Saints. Snead hasn\u2019t seen much of the field following the 2020 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens.<\/p>\n

He has a lot of upside, but it\u2019s only a matter of time before he gets another opportunity.\u00a0Even though he was getting just the majority of punt return reps with the Chargers, it\u2019s easy to see why the team is giving him a shot, given the versatility they have in their wide receiver corps from the\u00a02024 draft pick, Ladd McConkey. However, this probably won\u2019t be the only team that may give him an opportunity. Snead isn\u2019t going to drastically change an offensive roster, but he\u2019s more of a situational difference maker.<\/p>\n

The wide receiver would join the growing roots of former Ravens who have joined the Chargers in the past, including Hayden Hurst and JK Dobbins. Snead will probably start receiving interest as a speedster roster fill for these two aerial attacks.<\/p>\n

Potential Gem for Mahomes?<\/h3>\n

The Kansas City Chiefs should never feel afraid to add an offensive weapon to bolster the unit for\u00a0quarterback Patrick Mahomes.\u00a0Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will continue to be the long-term options for the team as long as they can stay out of offseason legal trouble. They have two dynamic receivers, but they must continue adding depth in the background to help Mahomes\u2019 confidence, depending on more receivers. Marquise Brown is returning on a one-year deal, so that puts Mahomes in a good spot to trigger some trickery plays later on in the season.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, these types of play would fit with Snead\u2019s style of what he would be able to get out of this offense.\u00a0Former Chief Justin Watson\u00a0had his moments and became a known weapon from last year\u2019s production. Perhaps Snead could do the same as a veteran on a one-year contract and swoop in to make a few crucial plays to stretch the ball down the field. Imagine having four speedsters, including Snead; this is exactly what the Chiefs might need to get ahead of the curve and get a possible vengeance in the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

New Dynamic Speedster<\/h3>\n

However, the Baltimore Ravens have also done their part to\u00a0pull off some play-action passes\u00a0from quarterback Lamar Jackson.\u00a0Zay Flowers\u00a0and Rashod Bateman are two fiery playmakers who have done this, and they could continue strengthening the blueprint with the addition of Snead. The Ravens could bring back their playmaker for one more, and this might be the game plan that will keep the defense on their toes.\u00a0DeAndre Hopkins isn\u2019t going to get that out of Jackson, and one more special playmaker like Snead could bring out a spark that hasn\u2019t been shown yet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
