And there is one potential deal that, of the Red Sox close it, could put them over the top heading into the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, assembling an unstoppable \u201cMurderer\u2019s Row,\u201d or Big Three in their offensive lineup would depend on the team finally convincing Soto to come to Boston, a prospect that he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/boston-red-sox\/juan-soto-would-prefer-boston-heres-one-big-reason-why-latest-rumors\/\">is reported to \u201cprefer\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 if the money is right. On Friday,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tAnKELwuxlc\">Locked on Red Sox<\/a><\/em>\u00a0podcast host Gabby Hurlbut posed the question: \u201cIs Vlad Guerrero Jr. to the Boston Red Sox a real possibility?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/guerrvl02.shtml\">off a 30-home run season<\/a>\u00a0with a .940 OPS for the Toronto Blue Jays, and with a career slugging percentage of .500, the 25-year-old first baseman ranks among the premier sluggers in baseball. His\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/war\/leaders\/_\/type\/offensive\/year\/2024\">offensive Wins Above Replacement (WAR)<\/a>\u00a0number for 2024 of 6.3 placed him seventh among all Major League hitters.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_2_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-2 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_2\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Guerrero Jr. will play 2025 on a one-year contract with the Blue Jays, collecting an estimated salary of $28.8 million, according to the sports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/21295\/vladimir-guerrero-jr\">business site\u00a0<em>SpoTrac<\/em><\/a>. Then, heading into the 2026 season Guerrero Jr. will become a free agent, unless the Blue Jays sign him to a contract extension before then \u2014 a prospect which so far has not looked very hopeful.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/mlb\/player\/market-value\/_\/id\/21295\/vladimir-guerrero-jr\"><em>SpoTrac<\/em>\u00a0predicts the value<\/a>\u00a0of Guerrero Jr.\u2019s next contract to be $259.8 million over 10 years, ESPN baseball insider\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescore.com\/mlb\/news\/3044048\">Jeff Passan has said<\/a> that a $300 million deal for the slugger is \u201cmore the floor than the ceiling.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_3_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-3 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In any event, Guerrero Jr. will likely become the highest-paid first baseman in MLB history, surpassing the 10-year, $254 million contract signed by Albert Pujols with the Los Angeles Angels in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluejaysinsider.com\/mlb-team\/toronto-blue-jays\/mlb-insider-jim-bowden-delivers-shocking-details-on-vladimir-guerrero-jr-situation\">newsletter\u00a0<em>Blue Jays Insider<\/em><\/a>, Guerrero has said that we would be open to an extension and would like to retire as a Blue Jay, \u201cbut for some reason the team does not seem to be on the same page.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>How Could Boston Acquire Guerrero Jr.?<\/h2>\n<p>That means if Toronto wants to get any value for Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays will be forced to trade him either this offseason, or during the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Hurlbut noted that Guerrero Jr. appeared to show some enthusiasm about a move to the Red Sox when he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KutterIsKing\/status\/1863566654795325802\">\u201cliked\u201d a social media post<\/a>\u00a0depicting himself, Soto and Devers all in Red Sox uniforms. But would the Red Sox be willing to part with at least one of their \u201cBig Four\u201d prospects to get Guerrero Jr., even if possibly for one year only?<\/p>\n<p>Those prospects are outfielder Roman Anthony, catcher Kyle Teel, second baseman Kristian Campbell and shortstop Marcelo Mayer. The Red Sox have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/2024\/11\/are-red-sox-willing-to-trade-any-of-their-big-four-prospects-for-an-ace.html\">extremely reluctant to put<\/a> any of the trade market, though Chief Baseball Officer has also said publicly that none of the four are off the table in trade talks.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Sox could also include their own power-hitting first baseman Triston Casas in a trade for Guerrero.
