But head coach Mike McDaniel might have to keep the Dolphins in the race until the end of the season to save his job.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what ESPN\u2019s Dan Graziano implied could be the situation while discussing \u201cpotential surprise\u201d head coaching fires after the 2024 season on December 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is outside speculation from people I\u2019m talking to around the league, rather than anything that definitely will or should happen,\u201d Graziano wrote. \u201cBut some have their eye on Miami and wonder whether there\u2019s a change if things end badly this season, though Mike McDaniel did\u00a0sign an extension\u00a0in August.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_1_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-1 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_1\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Marcel Louis-Jacques reported\u00a0on August 30 that McDaniel and the Dolphins signed a 3-year extension. With his original 4-year deal in 2022 and the extension, McDaniel is signed through the 2028 season.<\/p>\n<p>McDaniel led\u00a0the Dolphins to a 20-14 record in his first two years. Miami is 6-7 with four games remaining this campaign.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Why Mike McDaniel Will Likely Be Back With the Dolphins<\/h2>\n<p>Graziano argued how the Dolphins end the season will impact McDaniel\u2019s future. But unless the wheels just completely fall off, it would be surprising if the 41-year-old head coach doesn\u2019t return.<\/p>\n<p>With McDaniel in 2022 and 2023, the Dolphins were a top 11 offense in both yards and points scored. Last season, they were first in yards per game and second in points.<\/p>\n<p>Miami hasn\u2019t fared as well in those categories this season, but quarterback\u00a0Tua Tagovailoa\u00a0missed four games because of a concussion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_2_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-2 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>When Tagovailoa starts, the Dolphins\u00a0own a 24-15 record in three seasons with McDaniel. Furthermore, under McDaniel\u2019s tutelage, Tagovailoa has developed into one of the premiere quarterbacks in the league.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old signal caller leads the NFL with a 73.8% completion percentage this season. He also has 17 touchdowns versus only 4 interceptions with a 7.6 yards per pass average.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_3_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-3 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_3\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Given that head coach-quarterback chemistry, it\u2019s hard to imagine the Dolphins wanting to move on from McDaniel this offseason. A bad finish can always change things, but the Dolphins will face three teams with losing records in the final four games.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Criticisms of Dolphins\u2019 McDaniel<\/h2>\n<p>While McDaniel has performed well in three years, pundits want to see the Dolphins take that next step. The longer it takes for that to happen, the more criticism will pile up for the Miami head coach.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s already begun.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AdThrive_Content_4_desktop\" class=\"adthrive-ad adthrive-content adthrive-content-4 adthrive-ad-cls\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/18190176,25816858\/AdThrive_Content_4\/5ad7479721520f50ab7da88e_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"google-ad-manager-fallback-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>While appearing on the Punch Line Podcast with\u00a0Marlon Humphrey, former Dolphins safety\u00a0DeShon Elliott\u00a0called McDaniel\u2019s team \u201csoft as [expletive].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Current Dolphins linebacker\u00a0Jordyn Brooks\u00a0shared a similar sentiment for how the team played in Week 13 versus the\u00a0Green Bay Packers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt like we let the elements control the way that we played,\u201d Brooks told the media after losing to the Packers,\u00a0via FinsXtra. \u201cI thought we were soft.
