The Dallas Cowboys may not have a lot of W’s in the win-column, but they have a lot of zeros in their worth. Too bad Jerry Jones only cares about the latter.
Today, Forbes put out the 50 most valuable sports teams in 2024 and America’s Team came in at No. 1 – estimated worth of $10.1 billion. This is the Cowboys’ ninth straight year on top of the list and they are the first to cross the 11-figure threshold.
If only fans cared about this.
Heading into Week 15, the Cowboys have a record of 5-8 and have fallen out of the top 10-picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. To add insult to injury, the Carolina Panthers are the favorites vs. the Cowboys this Sunday. The Panthers have not been the favorites since 2022. Cowboys nation is down horrendously.
What’s ironic about this situation is that while the Cowboys organization generates a lot of money and has a lot of worth, they’re horrible with their cap space.
Heading into the 2025 season, the Cowboys will have $9.28 million in dead cap. That means another free agency period where the Cowboys are inactive. Executive vice president Stephen Jones has already prepped fans for another disappointing offseason.
“I think we knew we were gonna have a challenge [in 2024] and [2025],” Jones told reporters after a league meeting yesterday. “It’s gonna be really, really tight. We still have some money left over from some guys who are not here today, and we’re gonna have some other guys that won’t be here in the future that you’re still gonna have their cap count.”
At least he didn’t say the team was going “all-in” next season.
