The Golden State Warriors have landed Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets and head coach Steve Kerr is thrilled to have him onboard. In his press conference prior to the Warriors’ game against the Dallas Mavericks, Kerr spoke glowingly of Schroder and hilariously stated the guard had kicked his a** on three different continents.

“I’m thrilled, I told Dennis today he’s kicked my a** on three different continents,” Kerr said. “If you can’t beat him, join him. But, you know, 22 playoffs, I thought he was brilliant against us with the Lakers. Watching him in FIBA, the last two summers. Philippines and then we played them in London in an exhibition game.

“He’s a gamer, he’s a competitor, pick-and-roll player, two-way player,” Kerr stated. “… This was a move that we felt made perfect sense and so he will fill what (De’Anthony Melton) was doing for us in terms of being able to play on or off the ball. Excellent defender, long wingspan, he’s a steals guy, forced turnovers, pace, everything that we need, we feel he can provide.”

Schroder definitely has given Kerr a fair few headaches over the last year or so. First, he helped the Los Angeles Lakers eliminate the Warriors in six games in the Western Conference Semifinals in 2023. Then in the summer, Schroder helped Germany pull off a stunning 113-111 win over the Kerr-led Team USA in the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup in the Philippines.

Kerr did at least manage to get some revenge over Schroder when they faced off in London earlier this year, as Team USA won 92-88 against Germany. He is now glad he doesn’t have to worry about figuring out a way to stop him.

The Warriors acquired Schroder and a second-round pick by parting with De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman, and three second-round picks. They believe the guard, who has averaged 18.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game in 2024-25, can help them get back on track as they have wobbled after a strong start to the campaign.

The Warriors got off to a 10-2 start but a 143-133 loss to the Mavericks has now dropped them to 14-11 on the season. It has been clear for a while that they had to make a move and it will be interesting to see if Schroder can help turn things around.

Draymond Green Says The Warriors Will Be Adjusting To Dennis Schroder

Schroder doesn’t exactly play the brand of basketball that the Warriors do, but Draymond Green stated the guard wouldn’t have to worry too much about it. Green stated Schroder hasn’t been brought in to fit into the Warriors’ system.

“I don’t think he was necessarily brought here to fit,” Green said. “We play a certain style of basketball that he does not really play. And I don’t think the goal is to get him to play the style of basketball that we play. We need someone that can do the things that he does and so I’m looking forward to us adjusting to him.”

“He’ll have to adjust to some things and he’s a pro, he understands that,” Green continued. “He’s a pro, he understands that. But we have to adjust to him because he’s bringing something that this team needs. To just make him fall in line of what we do, we’d be wasting our time even bringing him here. We need somebody that can do what we necessarily don’t do, and I think that’s what he’ll be for us.”

The Warriors felt they needed to add another wrinkle to their offense and Schroder does provide a different kind of problem to the opposition. We’ll see the 31-year-old in action for his new team for the first time when the Warriors take on the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on Thursday at 8 PM ET.
