Mike McDaniel has been in charge of the Miami Dolphins for three years.
He revamped their offense, turning them into must-watch television and one of the most entertaining teams in the league.
Nevertheless, that has translated into a grand total of zero playoff wins.
The Dolphins even let their lead in the AFC East Division slip right through their fingers last season.
Granted, he’s had some tough luck with injuries, especially with Tua Tagovailoa.
Still, he hasn’t been at his best when he’s had to face winning teams.
As pointed out by Ryen Russillo in the latest edition of his podcast, McDaniel is now 3-15 against teams above .500 in his career (via FanDuel TV).
That’s not even against contending teams, just teams with a winning record.
That has raised doubts about whether he’s the right person to run the show.
As great as an offensive mind that he is, he hasn’t been able to crack the code when it comes to good teams.
That’s not the case with other young coaches from the same generation, such as Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur, Kyle Shanahan, or Kevin O’Connell.
Against all odds, there have been some major rumblings about his continuity with the team.
And with the Dolphins more likely to miss the playoffs than to make them this year, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see them reconsider his future, even despite Tua’s long absence midway through the season.
