TheKansas City Chiefs 13-1 conducted their second of three practices this week on Wednesday. The Chiefs are set to host the Houston Texans (9-5) on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Saturday game will be a short turnaround for Kansas City, who last played on Sunday in a 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to leave the game with a mild high-ankle sprain.

Mahomes’ status for Saturday’s game is in doubt. The two-time NFL MVP said on Tuesday that he wanted to play against the Texans but would not force the issue. The Chiefs are in the middle of playing three games in 11 days. Kansas City will travel to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, just a few days after their contest against Houston.

Head coach Andy Reid has a tough decision to make. The Chiefs don’t want to push their star quarterback too hard, making his injury worse before the playoffs. With a two-game lead on the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC, Kansas City doesn’t want to lose a first-round bye and home-field advantage.

Mahomes was a full participant at Tuesday’s light practice. On Wednesday, he was a full participant for the Chiefs, hinting that he’s trending toward playing Houston.

Some fans on social media suggested Mahomes was faking his injury against the Browns, thinking that he was looking for an excuse to miss the Christmas Day game or that he wanted an excuse if Kansas City didn’t make it far in the playoffs.

NFL fans left brutal comments for the Kansas City Chiefs star

Following the update on Wednesday that Mahomes was a full participant, many fans mocked the idea that he had any high-ankle sprain at all, as the injury typically takes weeks to heal from. (Hence why the injury was labeled as “mild”.)

“So I guess he wasn’t that hurt after all. Just like every other time. What nonsense,” wrote a fan.

“Ouch, my ankle…I’m ok,” wrote another.

“So he exaggerated his injury? Bro is so dramatic,” posted a fan.

“The gimmick never ends,” commented another.

“He obviously fakes these injuries,” argued a fan.

“He’s injuries are theatrics every time,” posted another.

“We knew this right when TV commentators & nfl media announced like Mahomes is injured . He is probably similar to Big Ben when it comes to injuries, making big noise even if it’s a minuscule injury,” wrote a fan.
