The Red Sox typically don’t make anything out of offseason minor-league additions, usually leaving them unannounced until shortly before spring training.
It’s not like the player can’t let people know, though.
Noah Davis, for example, announced that he’d be joining the organization on Friday, per his social media. Boston might not have to issue him any gear, either, as the announcement was made alongside a photo of him rocking a similar uniform as a little leaguer.
Davis, 27, has some added familiarity with the organization, previously working at Driveline Baseball — the data-driven training site founded by Red Sox special advisor Kyle Boddy.
The Red Sox made a few similar additions the last two offseasons, typically taking shots on “project” pitchers via minor-league contracts. Davis is a particularly interesting case from the right side, as he procured a 7.71 ERA and 5.65 FIP over 51 1/2 innings pitched over the last three seasons with the Colorado Rockies.
