BREAKING: Analyst Calls Yankees’ Free Agent Signing ‘Biggest Overpay’

The Major League Baseball offseason has not disappointed thus far as many big-time players in the league have switched teams.

After the New York Yankees lost out on bringing back their star outfielder Juan Soto when he signed with the New York Mets, the team didn’t waste any time signing other key players.

The Yankees traded for Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers and outfielder Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.

Along with the trades, the Yankees also signed starting pitcher free agent Max Fried to an eight-year contract worth $218 million as detailed by MLB Analyst Jon Heyman.

MLB analyst Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report revealed his thoughts on the Fried deal and how the Yankees overpaid.

“He may very well help the Yankees win a World Series during the peaks of Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. Adding him isn’t the issue. However, there are enough factors that make this feel like an overpay,” Kelly said.

Kelly notes that Fried will be paid $31.5 million from the years 2030-2032, which will be his age 36-38 seasons.

Fried is currently 30 years old and had a solid year in 2024 with the Atlanta Braves.

In 2024, Fried started 29 games where he held a record of 11-10 with a 3.25 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 174.1 innings pitched.

Kelly appears to believe that Fried is worth the contract for a while, but towards the end of the contract, he will be making a ton of money at the age that a decline in ability sets in.

The Yankees and Fried will try to win their first World Series title since 2009.
