The Miami Dolphins took care of business on Sunday. They hosted the San Francisco 49ers at home, and the Dolphins upset the odds by securing a win against a star-studded Niners squad at Hard Rock Stadium, 29-17.
Tua Tagovailoa turned in another strong performance in this one as the Pro Bowl quarterback completed 22-of-34 passes for 215 yards. The former Alabama standout logged just one touchdown on Sunday, but it turned out to be a historic one.
The Dolphins took to social media during the game to announce Tagovailoa’s incredible feat. The 26-year-old became just the fourth quarterback in franchise history to reach the century mark for career passing touchdowns.
Tagovailoa’s historic moment came in the second quarter of the game via a three-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill.
Tagovailoa and Hill have connected on more than a few touchdowns during their time together in Miami, but this one has to be extra special.
The NFL also congratulated Tagovailoa for his impressive achievement.
The league posted a photo of Tagovailoa with a graphic of his 100th career TD pass. They captioned the post with three clapping hands emojis.
Thanks to Tagovailoa’s strong play on Saturday, the Dolphins were able to get back to winning ways. They were coming off a disappointing 20-12 loss against the Houston Texans in Week 15, but Saturday’s victory improved their record to 7-8 on the season.
However, while this latest win means that their postseason hopes are still alive, the odds remain stacked against Miami. According to The New York Times’ playoff simulator, the Dolphins have just a 6% chance of making the postseason after Saturday’s victory.
