At this point, there’s no point in hiding it: Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is seriously banged up.
I know that hasn’t been a secret for anyone paying attention since Lamb went shoulder-first into the turf of Mercedes-Benz Stadium at Atlanta back in Week 9, when Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury. You can see Lamb’s pain every week.
But following the Cowboys’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16, Lamb opened up about his situation after catching seven passes for 105 yards.
“My shoulder is outta whack, I’m hurting bad, I’m not gonna even lie to you,” Lamb told reporters postgame via Jon Machota from The Athletic. “I’m just out there battling and doing what I do. It’s not fun.”
Last weekend, Lamb talked about the Cowboys needing to control what they could control regarding their playoff chances. But now, having been mathematically eliminated, Lamb’s response to why give such an effort while injured was much more simple: Love for the game and teammates.
“I love this game that much,” Lamb said. “I’m literally willing to put my body out there on the line for my guys.”
Lamb has stepped up his leadership in 2024 following the signing of a $136 million contract extension. In the past, Lamb’s attitude had been questioned by many due to his body language in unfavorable spots.
Well, it doesn’t get any more unfavorable than this: Banged up and ruled out of the postseason, Lamb was still giving it his all to help boost the Cowboys to a 26-24 win. Early in the game, the All-Pro wide receiver landed on his hurt shoulder and was visibly in pain and slow to get up. He briefly returned to the field after that sequence.
The 2024 Cowboys might be out of the postseason but as long as guys like Lamb are going at 100%, the team will keep showing fight.
