The Baltimore Ravens got off to a hot start against the Houston Texans on Christmas Day, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
Baltimore opened the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run from Derrick Henry, marking his 16th touchdown of the 2024 season. The 30-year-old running back now has 14 scores in the run game and two TDs through the air.
Henry’s 16 touchdowns are the most in single-season Ravens franchise history. The team took to social media to recognize this achievement with an announcement on Wednesday evening.
“Another record for the [King],” the Ravens wrote on X.
Henry put together an excellent first quarter on Christmas Day. In addition to his rushing TD, the all-time great running back also rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries.
Henry, who signed with Baltimore as a free agent before the 2024 season, has been excellent in his first season as a member of the Ravens franchise. Before today’s game, the former Tennessee Titans RB had 1,636 rushing yards on 278 carries — trailing only Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley in NFL rushing yards.
Henry is approaching his personal record for rushing/receiving touchdowns. His career high came when he notched 18 with the Titans in 2019.
If Baltimore maintains the lead and claims victory over the Texans this evening, the team will improve its 2024 season record to 11-5. Henry will look to continue his impressive performance this evening and in the Ravens’ Week 18 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Following the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ Week 17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this afternoon, the Ravens hold a half-game lead in the race for an AFC North title.
