The Philadelphia Eagles will not have quarterback Jalen Hurts when they play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
The former Alabama standout left Philadelphia’s 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders in the second quarter on Sunday to be evaluated for a concussion and did not return to the game. Hurts has not practiced this week, and on Friday, the Eagles listed his status as out for Sunday’s NFC East game against Dallas.
Including the playoffs, Hurts had started 36 consecutive games for Philadelphia.
Since Hurts became Philadelphia’s established starting quarterback with the opening of the 2021 campaign, the Eagles have a 45-17 record in regular-season games that he’s started and a 1-3 mark in the games that he has not.
Kenny Pickett took Hurts’ place against Washington. Pickett completed 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown and one interception and ran three times for 13 yards as the Eagles’ 10-game winning streak ended.
A first-round draft choice in 2022, Pickett started 24 games over the past two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Eagles obtained Pickett in March.
Pickett sustained a rib injury against the Commanders, and Philadelphia’s injury report listed the quarterback as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Friday and a full participant on Thursday.
With a 12-3 record, the Eagles already have secured their spot in the NFC playoffs. After playing the Cowboys at noon CST Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the Eagles close their regular-season schedule with a home game against the New York Giants on Jan. 5.
