Steph Curry reacted cryptically to the Warriors’ 6-foot-7 reported trade candidate, Jonathan Kuminga’s 34 points and nine rebounds against the Suns. Kuminga, a polarizing player among Warriors fan circles because of his up-and-down showings, outshone Kevin Durant on Saturday in a 109-105 win.

The Warriors prospect canceled Durant’s 31-point effort, helping the Dubs snap a three-game losing streak and just their fourth win in 16 games. Curry posted a story with a graphic of Kuminga’s stat line from the night with the “eyes” emoji. Here’s the post:

There’s been a wide discourse among the Warriors faithful over Kuminga’s future with the franchise. Many believe he should be traded, but his exploits in Saturday’s win have silenced his critics. It was also Kuminga’s second consecutive 30-point game. He had 34 against the LA Clippers on Friday.

Steph Curry seems to have the young rising star’s back amid all the outside noise. However, Jonathan Kuminga’s future remains in the air as the Warriors seemingly need another star who can be more reliable. Barring the last two games, Kuminga has struggled this season, averaging 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists on a career-low 44.7% shooting.

He’s also been publicly criticized by coach Steve Kerr for his style of play, which is often out of sync with the team’s system.

Draymond Green, Steve Kerr follow up Steph Curry’s cryptic reaction with huge praise for Jonathan Kuminga

Saturday was all about Jonathan Kuminga for the Warriors after he helped them break out of a slump with a much-needed win. Steph Curry dropped a cryptic reaction, seemingly hinting he has the young player’s back, while Green and Kerr hailed his growth.

“One of the most talented guys on this team by far,” Green said. “It’s good to see him playing the way he’s playing. We just need him to stay that aggressive.”

Kerr said:

“I just think he’s turning a corner. … This feels different to me. It really does. There’s just a different force to his game.”

Steve Kerr was critical of Jonathan Kuminga a few days ago for ignoring Steph Curr on the court, not trusting the pass, and taking contested two-pointers early in the shot clock. However, he hailed Kuminga’s process over the past two games. Kerr liked how he balanced his aggression and made the right reads to help Curry get more open shots on the perimeter.
