The Miami Dolphins hit the road for a crucial Week 17 matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Coming into the week, Miami trailed the Denver Broncos by two games in the playoff race. But with Denver’s loss on Saturday night, the Dolphins had an opportunity to close the gap to just one game heading into Week 18. A loss to the Browns, however, would have officially ended Miami’s playoff hopes.
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was ready to go after watching Denver’s loss. He even posted on social media, “Let’s take care of business guys.”
Despite being laser-focused on getting the win, Hill also had an opportunity to reach 11,000 career receiving yards on Sunday. All he needed was 27 yards against the Browns.
The eight-time Pro Bowler well exceeded that, catching all nine of his targets for 105 yards during Miami’s 20-3 win. He did so with backup quarterback Tyler Huntley under center in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa.
Now, with 11,078 career receiving yards, Hill took to social media postgame to share a message about his achievement.
“To the ones that came before me thank you for paving the way,” Hill wrote.
The 5-foot-10, 191-pound wideout is in his ninth season in the NFL and third in Miami. Hill previously spent the first six seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft out of West Alabama.
The Dolphins (8-8) hit the road again in Week 18 and will face the New York Jets (4-12). Miami will lock up the AFC’s final playoff spot with a win over the Jets and a Chiefs (15-1) win over the Broncos (9-7).
It’s still uncertain whether Miami will have Tagovailoa available, as he was listed as doubtful heading into Sunday and was eventually ruled out due to a hip injury.
After the win, NFL Networks’ Cameron Wolfe wrote, “Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel tells reporters it’s too early to say if Tua Tagovailoa can play Sunday vs. Jets with hip injury but surgery is not on the table right now.”
