Now, 4 players were dismissed after an altercation with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s game between the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, igniting tensions. As the two teams fought for position before an inbound pass, Rockets player Amen Thompson shoved Tyler Herro to the ground.
Herro and Thompson were vying for position ahead of an inbound pass with roughly 30 seconds remaining at the Toyota Center when the action broke out. Then, without warning, Thompson stepped into Herro’s face, seized him by the collar, and shoved him to the ground. As commotion broke out, both squads immediately rushed Thompson and Herro atop the pile.
Several assistant coaches, employees, and even arena security were required to defuse the tension. While they were being held back, Herro was observed clapping at Thompson. As a result, Thompson, Jalen Green, Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, and assistant Ben Sullivan were all ejected. Both Herro and Terry Rozier were sent off for the Heat. The exact cause of the incident is unknown.
The Heat persevered in the closing minutes to win by four points despite the wild final play. Herro led Miami to victory with a team-high 27 points and nine assists. Haywood Highsmith finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Nikola Jović scored 18 points off the bench. The Heat are now 16-14 in the East and are 7th in the Eastern Conference Standings.
