Novak Djokovic’s wife Jelena reacted to her husband and Nick Kyrgios’ blockbuster partnership kicking things off in style at the 2025 Brisbane International. The pairing had been the talk of tennis ever since its announcement and the duo seemed to have lived up to the fans’ hype.
On December 16th, Djokovic and Kyrgios, who share one of the most famous bromances in tennis at the moment, announced that they would be playing doubles at the Brisbane International. The two players delivered some high-quality tennis in their opening-round match against Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies, winning the thriller 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8.
Djokovic took to Instagram to share a couple of pictures alongside Kyrgios from their match. While the first one saw them doing an ecstatic jumping chest bump, the second image was of the two men embracing each other.
“Good trouble. Nice start. Idemooo @k1ngkyrg1os… 🇦🇺,” the Serb captioned his post.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion’s wife Jelena shared her reaction to the deadly duo’s perfect kick-off under her husband’s post. She wrote:
“Yeyyy🔥🔥🔥”.
Jelena has been one of the Serb’s biggest pillars of strength throughout his career. She can often be seen traveling with and cheering him on during his matches.
“Pleasure to play with Nick Kyrgios” – Novak Djokovic on teaming up with the Aussie
When Nick Kyrgios arrived in Brisbane ahead of his campaign, he jokingly said it was a pleasure for Djokovic to play alongside him. Reacting to the Aussie’s words during the post-match interview, the 24-time Grand Slam champion said:
“I want to thank Nick for playing. He said the other day it should be a pleasure to play with him. And it is. It is a pleasure,” the Serb said.
The 37-year-old acknowledged that he needed Kyrgios’ guidance during their match since he hadn’t played much doubles in the past few years.
“I’m glad to share the court with him on his comeback. I haven’t played many doubles matches in the last 5 years. Whatever Nick was saying I was following actually,” he added.
The blockbuster duo will face top seeds Nikola Metkic and Michael Venus in the second round.
Novak Djokovic is the top seed in singles and will kick off his campaign agaist home favorite Rinky Hijikata, in what will be their first meeting. On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios will face Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard first. The two friends could meet in the semifinal provided they win their opening three matches.
