FRISCO — A shocking and frightening series of burglaries in recent months have seen professional athletes and their families targeted. Almost weekly, new cases continue to pop up, seemingly without fail.
Last week, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic had his home burglarized. Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Linval Joseph had his home in Minnesota broken into as well.
The list continues on, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow whose house was broken into when the team was in Texas to face the Cowboys for a Monday night football game.
The FBI issued a memo to professional sports organizations early in December advising them how to best protect themselves
While apparently not connected, a similar occurrence happened last week involving Dak Prescott’s fianceé Sarah Jane Ramos. On December 26, she had items valued at a total of nearly $40,000 stolen from her vehicle.
Prescott has now spoken out since the matter, urging the importance of protecting himself and his family.
“I can’t have it be written about every which way that I go to protect my security because then I’ll just be opening a loophole, but I’ve always understood who I was or where I was, especially being the quarterback of this team and targeted that I am, whether it be for a natural robbery or whether it be for losing a game and whatever,” Prescott said.
“I’ve understood the position that I am in. So, for me it’s more about the day and now protecting my fiancée and my daughter.”
That mention of family cannot be understated as Prescott and Ramos are expecting their second child in May.
While it is again assumed – by Dak at least – that the burglary has any connection to the crimes affecting other professional athletes, these events strike a nerve for Prescott more significantly than they would otherwise. … now that he’s a family man.
