Will voter fatigue be the deciding factor in this year’s MVP race?
Looks like the NFL will have their own version of the “Joel Embiid MVP” case.
During the Bills-Jets game, CBS color commentator and former NFL quarterback Tony Romo chimed in on the MVP race and gave the real reason why some are leaning towards Josh Allen.
Will voter fatigue kick in? Will numbers be ignored? Will this be a narrative-driven MVP case? It’s starting to look like it.
Today, Allen completed 16-of-27 pass attempts for 182 yards and three total touchdowns in the Bills’ 40-14 win over the Jets. Entering the final week of the regular season, Allen has a total of 3,731 yards (11th), 28 TDS (tied for sixth), 531 rushing yards and 12 rushing-TDS, six INTS and a QBR of 76.7 (second).
Narrative wise, what Allen has going for him is that he has “less” talent around him, has led the Bills to a 13-3 record and has the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The seventh-year QB has also become a better decision maker, cleaned up the turnovers and continues to deliver in big games.
Now let’s take a look at Jackson.
In Jackson’s most recent game, he completed 10-of-15 attempts for 168 yards and also had three total TDS. Heading into Week 18, Jackson has a total of 3,955 yards (fourth), 39 TDS (second), 852 rushing yards and four rushing-TDS, four INTS and a QBR of 77.8 (first).
Jackson’s narrative is that he has greatly improved as a passer. While having a career-high passing season, Jackson is also leading QBs in rushing yards as well. The only knock on Jackson is the talent surrounding him, yet he has proven to be the best player on the team.
Allen is currently the favorite at -300.
