The New York Jets’ Week 18 clash against the Miami Dolphins might be their last chance for fans to see quarterback Aaron Rodgers do his thing. … a “thing” that last week, oddly, included an illegal hit out of bounds that just earned him a fine from the NFL of $11,255.
While Rodgers hasn’t indicated whether he intends to play on or retire in 2025, all options are on the table. But against the Dolphins, Rodgers has an important milestone that he could reach, and given it might be his last-ever game in the NFL, it would be fitting for him to reach it.
The season has been a horror show for a variety of reasons, but there’s a chance to finish it on a positive note, especially for Rodgers.
“This could be quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ final game with the Jets; it could also be his final game as an NFL player, as the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is undecided on whether to return for a 21st season,” ESPN writes. “Rodgers, who seems resigned to the likelihood that he won’t be back with the Jets, hopes to end with one last milestone. He needs one touchdown pass to become the fifth player in history with 500.”
Getting his 500th touchdown pass in what might be his final game would be good for the soul of football purists and we imagine that offensive coordinator Todd Downing will be doing his best to get Rodgers that touchdown pass.
Just three times this season has Rodgers not thrown a touchdown pass in a game, and he nor the Jets will want the Week 18 clash against the Dolphins to be game No. 4.
He would also, we’re sure, avoid having to get involved in tackling, legal or otherwise.
So there is a shot at Rodgers hitting that milestone in what might be his last NFL game.
Will the stars align?
