If the Miami Dolphins didn’t take Tyreek Hill’s postgame threat seriously after the team’s 32-20 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, they likely did on Monday morning when Hill changed his profile picture on X to Antonio Brown from the day he walked out on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following Sunday’s defeat in which Hill caught only two passes for 20 yards, he expressed to reporters in the locker room how disappointed he was in the Dolphins’ 8-9 season then stated that he wanted out of Miami.
“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill said. “I mean, for me, like I said, I just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here, that’s wherever the case may be. I’m [fixing to] open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
However, if the Dolphins do, in fact, entertain trading Hill, here are five teams that should be calling general manager Chris Grier.
1. Baltimore Ravens
Few would argue that Zay Flowers (74 catches, 1,059 yards, four touchdowns) is a budding star, but the Ravens were too reliant on him at times this season. The front office clearly thought it needed to upgrade the wide receiver position when it added Dionate Johnson at the trade deadline, only for that move to blow up in their face.
Rashod Bateman had a solid season (45 receptions, 756 yards, nine TDs), but he’s more of a No. 3 guy. Adding a player as dynamic as Hill who can take the top off the defense would create plenty of mismatch problems and allow the Ravens to move Flowers more inside (he’s split his snaps 65% out wide and 35% from the slot) and experiment with different looks in the pass game.
2. Dallas Cowboys
After signing his four-year, $136 million contract extension, CeeDee Lamb had a strong season (101 catches, 1,194 yards, six TDs) despite playing with backup QB Cooper Rush for more than half the season. The problem is Dallas didn’t have a credible No. 2 opposite of him to create explosive plays.
Jalen Tolbert’s production was solid, but he’s nowhere near the gamebreaker that Hill is. A 1-2 punch of Hill and Lamb with Dak Prescott throwing the ball just might make the Cowboys the most feared passing attack in the NFL.
3. Houston Texans
Nico Collins is a stud, but Houston’s depth behind him leaves much to be desired. With Tank Dell’s brutal leg injury suffered just a few weeks ago, his status for next season is in serious doubt and Stefon Diggs is a free agent at the end of the year, leaving the Texans needing some help at WR.
C.J. Stroud is one of the top QBs in the AFC, and giving him two legit weapons like Hill and Collins could help him jump into Lamar Jackson/Josh Allen territory and give the Texans one of the more feared passing attacks in the conference.
4. Los Angeles Chargers
Hill made waves a few days ago when he liked a post on X that mentioned the Chargers are the betting favorite to trade for him during the offseason, signaling he might have interest in heading to Southern California. And who could blame him for wanting to team-up with QB Justin Herbert.
Rookie Ladd McConkey had a breakout year (82 catches, 1,149 yards, seven TDs), and pairing him with an explosive deep threat like Hill could give the Chargers the kind of dangerous 1-2 punch they had with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams back in 2021 when Herbert threw for a career-best 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns.
5. New England Patriots
Yes, the Patriots just fired their head coach and they have a roster depleted of talent. But they have a blossoming star QB in Drake Maye, a solid safety net in tight end Hunter Henry, and two solid young WRs in DeMario Douglas Kayshon Boutte, and if they lure away Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be their new head coach, suddenly New England is an attractive destination for a player like Hill.
It’s clear the Patriots want to build around Maye and put him in the best possible situation to be successful, and making a splash by adding a WR like Hill, who had back-to-back seasons with 119 catches and 1,700 yards in 2022 and 2023, is one of the best ways to achieve that.
