The Kansas City Chiefs finished the regular season with a 15-2 record and notched the No. 1 seed in the conference. The Chiefs are chasing history and seek to secure their third straight Super Bowl title.
The Chiefs are focused on being a part of history, but when you’re an elite team, members of your staff and front office will be looked at. That’s happening in Kansas City and ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the New York Jets requested an interview for assistant General Manager Mike Borgonzi.
Chiefs News: New York Jets Request to Interview Mike Borgonzi
The New York Jets hired the 33rd team to help lead a deep and in-depth search for head coach and general manager. Former NFL front office executives Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman are leading this deep dive and are looking at Borgonzi.
Borgonzi is entering his 16th season with his team, being in Kansas City since 2009. Over his tenure with the Chiefs, he’s held roles as an Administrator of college scouting, Manager of football operations, Assistant director of pro scouting, and Director of player personnel/football operations.
Ahead of the 2021 season, he got promoted to assistant General Manager. He currently looks over and directs the team’s college and professional scouting operations while helping General Manager Brett Veach with the club’s roster management and player acquisition via the NFL Draft, NFL free agency, street free agency, waiver claims, and trades.
He has been a staple in the front office and has gotten the attention of other teams in the league. Although it’s early in the process, the New York Jets like what they see from Borgonzi. This is something to watch, as the Jets are currently the only team in the league with a GM opening.
The New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints have openings at HC but decided to keep their current GMs.
We’ll see how things unfold but Borgonzi will get a chance to sway New York’s ownership if he likes the job.
