As the 2025 Australian Open approaches, Carlos Alcaraz has recognized the formidable challenge posed by Novak Djokovic, emphasizing the Serbian’s relentless drive and experience on hard courts.
Alcaraz, currently ranked third in the world, acknowledged Djokovic’s enduring competitiveness. Despite a less dominant 2024 season, Djokovic’s motivation remains a significant factor in the upcoming tournament. Alcaraz remarked, “He is going to be a really dangerous opponent. He is going to be hungry to win again.”
Djokovic, 37, experienced a quieter year in 2024, failing to secure a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017. However, his victory at the Paris Olympics, where he clinched his first singles gold medal, underscores his enduring prowess. Alcaraz noted that Djokovic’s time away from competitive matches could enhance his readiness for the Australian Open.
Alcaraz is aiming to complete a Career Grand Slam by securing his first Australian Open title. He expressed, “I am going to try to win the Australian Open to complete the Grand Slam.”
Djokovic is expected to return to competitive play in early January, aiming for a record-extending 11th Australian Open title. His recent withdrawal from the ATP Finals due to injury has not dampened his determination. Alcaraz’s acknowledgment of Djokovic’s potential highlights the competitive landscape of men’s tennis as the Australian Open approaches.
